What is the work like as an assistant?

Trainee hairdressers usually begin by carrying out basic tasks such as

- Greeting customers

- Answering the telephone

- Making sure towels and supplies are ready for use

- Keeping the salon clean and tidy

- Providing refreshments to the clients

- Shampooing hair

After working in the salon and passing the necessary units in NVQ Level two you will progress onto

- Basic colouring techniques

- Basic finishing techniques e.g. drying and flat ironing hair

- Booking appointments

- Taking payments at reception
